Sunday School Resumes Next Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the fellowship with a special program. As part of that opening exercise we will be introducing the Sunday School mission project for the year: NICKELS FOR NETS. We are going to take part in the Lutheran Malaria Initiative, a mission program of the ELCA that seeks to reduce the problem of Malaria in African countries by providing treated mosquito netting. We will have special “guests” from the Southern Ohio Synod Hunger Task Force with us to share more information about this program. Classes for ages 3 and up are available every Sunday morning.
Kids Coloring Contest at Rally Day & Church Picnic - All kids are invited to participate in our 1st Annual Coloring Contest! Use your creative talents and color a beautiful picture to help us celebrate the love of God! Pictures can be picked up at Zion on the table in the entry way. Bring those pictures with you to Rally Day Celebration or to the Church Picnic on Sunday, September 12, and enter them in the contest. Winning entries will be displayed in the display cabinets in the narthex!
Church Picnic September 12, 3:00 p.m., Armco Park - Festivities will begin around 3:00 p.m. at the same shelter site we have used the last several years - signs will be posted! This year’s picnic has lots in store:
3:00 - Arrive and get set up (Kids Coloring Contest last chance entries)
3:30 - Let the games begin! Balloon toss, relays, interactive games for everyone!
4:30 - Supper – with Dave “do you want that well done?” Bond at the grill. We’ll provide hamburgers, hot dogs and rolls and beverages. Please bring food to share – side dishes, salads, deserts. You will also need to bring your own table service and lawn chairs.
5:30 - BINGO with prizes to please the most savvy Bingo player!
The Share committee is asking for donations to the Oesterlen Children’s Home during September and October. The following items are needed:
white crew socks (men and women)
bath towels and wash cloths
stick deodorant 2.6 or larger (no musk)
toothpaste 6.4 or larger
toothbrushes adult soft
pens
lined notebook paper
pocket folders
3 ring binders 1” or 2”
coloring books
playing cards (Uno or Skip-Bo)
art supplies
glue sticks
The donation box will be in the narthex during September and October.
WE NEED USHERS - We need ushers to help cover our worship services. The usher service involves checking the sanctuary before the service, greeting worshippers and distributing bulletins, receiving the offering, directing and assisting the distribution of Holy Communion, and straightening up following the worship. Service is generally for a month at a time. Check with Hans Lenski or note your willingness to serve on the bulletin tear-off.
Envelopes for ordering Altar Flowers are available in the narthex. The cost of the flower designation is $13.00 Designation from several donors will be accepted for each Sunday. Payment must accompany the altar flower order. A flower chart will be posted on the bulletin board in the hallway by the office. The altar flowers will be delivered to our shut-ins, hospitalized and recuperating members.
